Individual and Team Rules

Manitoba Residency and eligibility : Any person legally entitled to be and remain in Canada, and who is ordinarily a resident of Manitoba, and has been resident in the province for at least 200 days during the eligibility period (January 1, 2003 through to March 31, 2005) shall be considered as Manitoban for Blizzard Awards 2006. Each entrant in Craft and Performance categories shall abide by residency requirements as follows :

  • A Resident Manitoban can enter work in any Craft and in any Performance category, regardless of where the work was produced, that is, a Manitoban is NOT limited to his/her work only on a Manitoba Production. (see Definitions : Manitoba Production)
  • A non-Manitoban can enter work only from a Manitoba production, that is, a non-resident IS restricted to entering his/her work ONLY on a Manitoba Production.
  • Teams who worked on a Manitoba Production can include Manitoban and/or non-resident entrants.

No limit to entry numbers : Any number of applicable Performer and/or Craft categories can be entered for a single motion picture.

  • Individual Performers, Individual Craftspeople, teams of Craftspeople or Presenters and/or producers, can submit applications on behalf of entrants.

All can submit entries : Performers and Craftspeople are encouraged to submit work for consideration by the Nominations Jury. Entries do not have to be submitted by a producer, however, an authorizing signature (see Definitions) is required on the application to verify the position on the production.

  • To prevent duplication of production team entries for the same motion picture in the same category a credit list is required for some categories.

Entry in Program category not required : Performer and Craft entrants need not have the motion picture entered in a Program category to be considered in a Performer or Craft category.

On-screen credit : An entrant in a Craft and Performer category must have received an on-screen credit in the relevant category on that motion picture .

  • Submissions must include a list of relevant on-screen credits, and/or verification of credit by an Authorized Signing Person . (see Definitions)

General Requirements

Craft Team Awards celebrate the collaboration that creates excellence in a motion picture.

  • Designation and verification of team membership : Each team entry may designate the most appropriate and relevant craft contributors to the quality of that motion picture.
    • Team members need not be Manitoban. (see Individual and TEAM Rules: Manitoba Residency)
    • A designated key technician and/or department head must sign the Entry Form as Entrant.
    • An authorized signing person (see Definitions ) must sign the Entry Form to ensure no duplication of team entries for the same motion picture in the same craft category.
  • One glass Blizzard statue for each award category will be provided by On Screen Manitoba. Unless another individual has been designated, in writing, by an authorized signing authority (see Definitions) , the statue will be presented to the first individual named in that Category on the Official Entry Form, generally the key technician or department head.
    • Additional Blizzard statues may be purchased, at cost, by the other named winner(s) in each category or by the producer(s) or executive producer(s). No others are entitled or will be permitted to acquire a statue.
    • All Nominees receive one personalized Nomination Certificate.
    • One Winner Certificate will be given to those winners who are not the designated statue recipient.
  • Allowable Team Credits : Each category has appropriate associated credits. The determination of team entrants will reflect the type of motion picture. Rationale for inclusion of other allowable credits and/or any increase in maximum of eight (8) team entrants should be submitted, in writing, with the application, before the final entry deadline for review by the Blizzard Awards Committee.
    • Rulings affecting allowable credits team maximum will be determined before the Announcement of Nominees.

C1 MUSIC OVERALL

The original musical score, composition and/or the best incorporation of pre-existing music in any genre, whether animation, a dramatized story or a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue. Exception : This category excludes music from motion pictures eligible and entered in any of the Program Categories where music is the main focus of the content of that motion picture (generally this would exclude music from entries in the Music Video and Performing Arts categories).

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names should be selected from the following allowable credits: composers, musical supervisor, musicians / performers or a musical group / band, and music editors.

C2 SOUND OVERALL

The overall sound, including location recorded, designed, created and/or mixed, in any genre, whether animation, drama or non-fiction for a program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue.

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names should be selected from the following allowable credits: re-recording mixers, location recordist, production sound mixer, dialogue editor, ADR editor, FX editor, Foley artist, sound editor, sound supervisor and music editor or recording engineer.

C3 ART DIRECTION OVERALL

The overall "look" including the cumulative physical elements, locations, backgrounds, sets, costumes, props and effects, of a program or series, in any genre, whether animation, a dramatized story or a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue.

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names, should be selected from the following allowable credits: production designer, art director, set decorator, costume designers, (key) hair and/or make-up stylists, special effects hair and/or make-up stylists, property master, construction coordinator, head greens, key scenic artist, puppet makers.

C4 EFFECTS OVERALL

Visual effects and/or special effects used to tell a story, in any genre, whether animation, a dramatized story or a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue.

Effects can be created before, during or post-production, and include : mechanical manipulation, stunts (including pyrotechnics and vehicle), animation, graphics, 3-D, and 2-D digital paintwork, traditional matte painting and compositing.

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names should be selected from the following allowable credits: stunt team members, principal effects designers with Company credit, special effects coordinators, Visual FX supervisor, Key/Lead digital compositor, Key/Lead Computer Generated Imaging (CGI) artist, secondary digital compositor, secondary CGI artist, graphics artist and animator.

C5 CINEMATOGRAPHY OVERALL: DRAMA

The overall visuals and shooting style created by the cinematography, photography or videography of a dramatized story using characters: live-action or animation, re-created or re-enacted, in any genre, of any length, with any budget, for any venue.

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names should be selected from the following allowable credits: director of photography (DOP), cinematographer, videographer, photographer, camera / camera operator, 2 nd unit camera , lighting director, gaffer and key grip.

C6 CINEMATOGRAPHY OVERALL: NON-FICTION

The overall visuals and shooting style created by the cinematography, photography, or videography of a non-dramatic, factual representation of reality, in a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue, in any genre, including : documentary, reality, light documentary, practical how-to, light information, TV broadcast news, sports program or series and real-time special events as well as segments and/or packages of edited, live-time material, commentary and analysis of issues.

  • Individual or team entrant to a maximum of 8 names should be selected from the following allowable credits: director of photography (DOP) / cinematographer, videographer, photographer, camera / camera operator, 2 nd unit camera, lighting director, gaffer and key grip.

C7 EDITING: DRAMA

The picture editing of a story using characters : live-action or animation, re-created or re-enacted, in any genre, of any length, with any budget, for any venue.

  • Editor or editing team entrant to a maximum of 8 individuals.

C8 EDITING: NON-FICTION

For the picture editing of a non-dramatic, factual representation of reality in a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue, in any genre including : documentary, reality, light documentary and practical how-to, light information, TV broadcast news, sports program or series, and real-time special events as well as segments and/or packages of edited, live-time material, commentary and analysis of issues.

  • Editor or editing team entrant to a maximum of 8 individuals.

C9 WRITING: DRAMA

For writing a dramatized story using characters : live-action or animation, re-created or re-enacted, in any genre, of any length, with any budget, for any venue. This category includes a script, scenes, dialogue and/or monologue, and/or narration, whether entirely original material, a dramatic adaptation of a "real life" story, or the adaptation of a stage play or work of fiction.

  • Writer or writing team entrant to a maximum of 8 individuals
  • Work on each episode of a series will be considered as a single, distinct entry.

C10 WRITING: NON-FICTION

For writing, including a script, narration and/or on-camera segments, of non-dramatic, factual representation of reality, in a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue in any genre including : documentary, reality, and practical how-to, light information, TV broadcast news, sports program or series and real-time special events as well as segments and/or packages of edited, live-time material, commentary and analysis of issues.

  • Writer or writing team entrant to a maximum of 8 individuals.

C11 DIRECTING: DRAMA

For the direction of a dramatized story told using characters: live-action or animation, re-created or re-enacted, of any length, with any budget, for any venue .

For the direction of a non-dramatic, factual representation of reality in a fact-based program or series, of any length, with any budget, for any venue, in any genre including : documentary, reality, and practical how-to, light information, TV broadcast news, sports program or series, and real-time special events as well as segments and/or packages of edited, live-time material, commentary and analysis of issues.
