Ann Arbor Film Festival – Michigan – August 15th

Catch the early deadline for the AAFF by August 15th and submit your film for only $30. Our standard deadline is October 15th for $40 and the late deadline is November 15th.

We're looking for new independent films of all lengths and genres that are: artistically inspired, lovingly crafted, cutting edge, bold visions.

If you're submitting a film, please help us reduce waste with our green submissions initiative:

• If sending DVD, use a paper slip case, not a hard plastic one
• Ship in a stiff cardboard or other recyclable mailer with no bubble wrap
• Print "Do Not Bend" on the front of envelope
No press kits of any kind - these will be immediately recycled

Metafest 2008 Call for entries to online short film festival – Sept 10th

Metacafe, one of the world’s largest video entertainment sites with 30 million unique visitors per month, and Microcinema International, a leading international exhibitor and specialty markets distributor of the "moving image arts,” are teaming to create and curate MetaFest 2008.

MetaFest 2008 is a juried short-film festival that combines the best of the on- and off-line worlds.

MetaFest accepts films 10 minutes or less in length - animated, narrative, humorous, artistic, dramatic, documentary, mockumentary, music, experimental, alternative or avant-garde in any genre, format or style. There are no entry fees and multiple submissions are encouraged.

1st Annual Four River Film Festival – Croatia – NEW DATE - Aug 10

The Four River Film Festival will take place for the first time as a part of traditional Croation Youth Festival in Karlovac from the 4-7 of September 2008. The newest film and video accomplishments from young authors will be presented and the competition will be based on an international level.

Authors between 14-20 years of age can take part in the festival. Every author or group can apply an indefinite number of times. It is recommended that films last no longer than 30 minutes. Videos can be sent in the following formats vhs, svhs, Hi8 Dig8, Mini DV, Betacam in Sp and standard and DVD-R (only in DVD format) No CDs.

Hello Friends,

I’m writing let you all know that I’ll be leaving On Screen Manitoba later this month to pursue work in the UK.  It’s been a great time working with and getting to know all of you over the past year.

On Screen Manitoba is an outstanding organization and I’ve really enjoyed my time working here, which makes this a bittersweet farewell. The community is incredibly supportive and great to work with, and I am forever grateful to you all. No one's departure from this magnetic town is ever permanent, so I look forward to keeping in touch.

My friends and colleagues at On Screen Manitoba are on the hunt for a great new teammate, so please let us know if you have a potential candidate in mind for my position.

DOCUMENTARY & DRAMA PITCH: Exclusive Professional Training & Pitch Sessions

Do you have a great idea for a short (23 min or less) documentary or short drama? Three documentary pitch contestants & three drama pitch contestants will be selected by imagineNATIVE's Programming Committee to receive a free, 6hr intensive "How to Pitch" workshop with a broadcasting industry professional, on Wednesday, October 15th in downtown Toronto. One winner from each category will be selected by the panel. Best Documentary Pitch will receive ONE-MONTH USE OF CBC NEWSWORLD'S SONY HDV CAMERA. Best Drama Pitch will receive a $5,000 DEVELOPMENT DEAL WITH APTN. The winners will be announced at the imagineNATIVE Closing Night Awards, Sunday, October 19st.

Lucca Film Festival (Italy): Call to Film & Video Artists

The deadline for entries to the Lucca Film Festival’s international short-film competition is arriving soon, next week – 10th of august 2008. The Lucca Film Festival which takes place for the fourth time this year (10 October- 18 October 2008) is an annual celebration of independent and experimental film & video featuring 9 days of screenings, lectures, conferences and performances.

For the international competition programme we are looking for independent and avant-garde artists’ films and videos completed in the last two years. So, if you are a film or video maker, please send your tapes or DVD’s of recent works for preview and consideration to the address below. Rencontres Internationales (Paris/Madrid/Berlin): Call to Film, Video & New Media Artists

The 'Rencontres Internationales' will take place at the Centre Pompidou, at the Jeu de Paume national museum and in other key locations in Paris in November 2008. The same program will be presented in Madrid in April 2009 and in Berlin in June 2009. Those three events will propose an international programming focusing on film, video and multimedia, gathering works of artists and filmmakers acknowledged on the international scene along with young artists and filmmakers.

Video and film submissions are received on DVD. ALL submissions are sent by postal mail, enclosed with a filled-in ONLINE ENTRY FORM, UNTIL THE 25th of AUGUST, 2008.
