THE SUPER 8 CINEMA OF JOHN PORTER: CONDENSED RITUALS AND CAMERA DANCES

Super 8 filmmaker, photographer, performer and writer John Porter is probably Canada’s best known spokesman for super 8 filmmaking. Known in his native Toronto as the king of super 8, John has made more than 300 short films and has performed more than 80 solo shows internationally. During this presentation, Porter will perform live in front of the audience while screening a selection of his works. Porter’s films are dynamic, humorous and revealing, enjoyed by people of all ages (families are encouraged to bring their kids!). They reveal and highlight the excitement and risk taking of creating a super 8 film.

Alan Zweig has created a new documentary which delves into the lives of ex-cons to uncover their deepest secrets. As each of the characters in the film tries to adapt to life on the outside, they share their stories, reflect on their past, and explore the path that led them to prison in the first place.

FUNDRAISING GALA: PROFILING MICHAEL DRABOT

The WFG annual fundraising gala raises funds in support of the organization's general operations, while honouring important figures within the Winnipeg film community. This year we will be honouring Michael Drabot and his contribution to Winnipeg film and video making over the decades, in an evening featuring a special overview of Drabot's career as well as a screening of some of Michael's 80's film and video work.
