Having released five gold and platinum selling albums within eight years, A Tribe Called Quest has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history, and regarded as iconic pioneers of hip-hop. The band’s sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group’s innovative musical stylings never seems to diminish.

Widely described in the media as an eco-terrorist and religious cult leader, Alberta native Wiebo Ludwig is the leader of a Christian community in northern Alberta who has been fighting the oil and gas industry for years and is the chief suspect in a series of pipeline bombings. The bombings echo a campaign of sabotage he waged against the gas industry 10 years ago... barricading roads, blowing up wells, and culminating in the unsolved death of a 16-year-old girl on his family's farm. The Ludwig family lives in northern Alberta, in the heart of Canada's oilpatch. They came 25 years ago, wanting to live more closely according to their Christian beliefs, according to scripture. They built their community in the wilderness with their own hands, not knowing that it lay on top of one of the largest undeveloped fields of natural gas on the continent. Other people take whatever buyout is on offer, and make an accommodation with the oil and gas industry. Wiebo and his family - after years of trying to deal with the industry, politicians and the media - went to war.

Come join us in celebrating the NFB's 75th Anniversary by participating in our Animation Station. Using plasticine and paper cut outs, children and parents alike can learn how to create their own mini-animation project where simple characters come to life.
