The Crew Course and Travel Fund (CCTF) was created to support the professional development of Manitoba’s crew members, and to assist in filling the labour gaps at the mid to advanced level crew positions within the film industry.

Through the CCTF, Film Training Manitoba will provide financial assistance to approved applicants in order to help cover the costs of participating in a professional development workshop, course, or other opportunity. Professional development opportunities are only eligible if they increase the applicant’s skill set and knowledge base in order to become more proficient in their current position, or advance to a more senior position within their department.

Film Training Manitoba has designed its Human Resource Training Fund (HRTF) to support Manitoba’s production and service companies in the professional development of their employees by offering customized workshop training and mentorships. The HR Training Fund is an exciting opportunity for Manitoba’s production companies to design their own training, under the guidance of FTM.

Companies applying to the fund may be eligible for up to $2,000 worth of training (based on eligibility requirements). The HR Training Fund will cover 100% of the eligible expenses for all approved training initiatives. Applications that meet the eligibility requirements will be forwarded to a jury of industry professionals for evaluation.

Film Training Manitoba is once again accepting applications for our Career Focus Program. As part of FTM’s Work Experience Program, the CFP will provide on-the-job training to new crewmembers. The purpose of this program is to match graduates from a post-secondary institution with production companies and/or film-related businesses such as equipment houses or production facilities.

This program is offered to post-graduate youth up to the age of 30 (inclusive) and Film Training Manitoba works with production companies to provide participants with a full time, paid internship for a period of 8 to 12 weeks.

In September 2008, Film Training Manitoba began offering required courses online, via www.filmtraining.mb.ca. These courses are requirements for membership to IATSE 856, IATSE 669 and the DGC MB District Council and are available online 24/7.

For over two years, Film Training Manitoba has collaborated with Red River College to deliver the Intro to Film Crew Course through the Continuing Education Department. This year the course has been renamed Film Crew Training: Introduction and is being delivered in-class beginning Monday, April 11th.

Congratulations to OSM member Neila Benson of Film Training Manitoba for being nominated for a Women of Distinction award.
