APTN National News & Current Affairs has a full-time temporary opportunity (approximately 11 months) for an experienced individual who will be responsible for submitting daily stories for APTN National News by gathering, writing and packaging reports to the Winnipeg Production Centre on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing, shooting, editing and delivering stories, copy and other news items for broadcast on APTN National News/Current Affairs
  • Providing daily story ideas, receive assignments and evaluate leads
  • Gathering, researching and verifying information for story content
  • Shooting video and editing packs for same day delivery
  • Appearing on camera when conducting interviews; doing stand-ups and narration; giving live reports from the site of events; and writing stories, intros, and extros
  • Ensuring that expenditures remain within budget limits and are reported promptly and accurately 
  • Maintaining office inventory requirements
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years experience meeting the deadlines of daily news in television
  • A journalism degree, certificate or equivalent experience
  • As an on-air representative of Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples – must be of First Nations, Métis or Inuit ancestry
  • Must be able to articulate social, economic and cultural issues relevant to Aboriginal communities
  • Ability to travel
  • Proof of valid driver’s license is required (driver’s abstract)

Key Responsibilities:
· Write, prepare, edit and/or proofread promotional materials, publication articles and corporate communications materials
· Assist the Manager of Communications with the development of annual communications and publicity plans, media response strategies and e-marketing initiatives
· Assist the Manager of Communications to plan and execute public relations initiatives and programming launch strategies
