Winnipeg, October 7, 2009 – In celebration of International Animation Day and the National Film Board of Canada’s 70th anniversary, the NFB is launching a special edition of Get Animated! – a series of free public screenings, from October 23–31, 2009, in 13 communities across Canada. The NFB’s Get Animated! website will also offer exclusive animation programming from October 8, 2009.

We celebrate the impetus to create in motion picture as a means of artistic expression and bring to the forefront works that may be overlooked by the mainstream. WNDX is a film festival that was created by filmmakers, in support of filmmakers.

I would like to invite you to take part in the Canada Media Fund (CMF) Industry Consultation by participating in a Focus Group session that will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at The Fairmont Winnipeg, 2 Lombard Place, Winnipeg. The session will be moderated, and a light lunch will be served.
 
The purpose of the Focus Group is to obtain the input and expertise of industry stakeholders, such as yourself, as we create the policies and programs of the CMF. Discussions at the Focus Group will centre on the key policy issues we outlined during our virtual town hall on August 6, 2009. Through the approach used during the sessions, the following are some of the questions that will be addressed:

Featuring top television program creators, broadcasters, and executives in children's and animation television industries, Kids and Animation Day includes sessions, networking opportunities, broadcaster briefings and spotlights on high-profile players in the industry.

For the past three years, the Children’s Acting Center team has prepared dozens of Winnipeg children and teens for auditions and roles in Winnipeg’s burgeoning film industry. As well, many of our young actors have not expressed an interest in the industry, however, they have had a terrific time and the skills and attitudes they have developed will only benefit them as they move into other endeavors!
