Telefilm Canada today held its fourth Annual Public Assembly and released the highlights of its 2011-2012 annual report. The event took place at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto and was attended by over 100 clients and partners. The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, announces that the federal government has renewed Michel Roy’s mandate as Chair of Telefilm Canada’s Board for five years.

Grâce à l’entente entre Téléfilm Canada et ACE, deux producteurs canadiens auront la chance de participer au Programme ACE MUNDUS 2013, soit un producteur du marché francophone et un producteur du marché anglophone. Cette entente couvre – pour chaque producteur – les coûts suivants : frais de formation, frais de déplacement de Paris à à la Finlande (aller-retour), dépenses d’hébergement et de subsistance en Europe. Le tarif aérien aller-retour Canada/Paris est couvert par ACE.

Telefilm Canada's agreement with ACE will allow for two Canadian producers to participate in ACE MUNDUS Programme 2013, one producer from the English market and one producer from the French market. This agreement covers - for both producers - the following costs: tuition costs, travel from Paris to Finland and back, accommodation and subsistence expenses in Europe. Canada/Paris round-trip airfare is covered by ACE.

According to the organization’s Success Index, the performance of its portfolio improved by 23.7% in 2011. Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce that as of today, June 27, 2012, we are officially launching our new Micro-Budget Production Program. This program targets emerging talent in Canada’s audiovisual industry and will support them in the production and release of their first feature-length film, with an emphasis on digital platforms and their potential for wide distribution and audience involvement.

This has proven to be a very strong year for regional English-language feature film applications. On the eve of an exceptional year for Canadian coproduction at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2012), Telefilm Canada announces that the five-year total (2006 to 2010) for the volume of Canadian feature film treaty coproduction budgets amounts to $1.02 billion. This total includes the domestic and foreign budgets of 111 Canadian feature film international coproductions. Canadian feature film coproductions also earned 165 awards from around the world in the same time period, most notably the Canada-France title Incendies (2011) and the minority Canadian Polish-German feature In Darkness (2012) were Oscar nominees for Best Foreign-Language Film.

Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the independent public organization that regulates and supervises the Canadian broadcasting and telecommunications systems, has officially recognized Telefilm's new private donation fund as a Certified Independent Production Fund.

Telefilm Canada is currently accepting market-ready narrative scripts on behalf of No Borders, Independent Film Week for its 2012 edition.

Telefilm Canada’s Executive Director, Carolle Brabant, was honoured last evening by Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) at its 2012 Annual Awards Gala. Ms. Brabant is a recipient of a CWC 2012 Excellence in Leadership Award. The Awards recognize nationwide leadership excellence and commitment to women’s advancement and equality in the communications and technology industries.

In its March 29th budget, the Government announced that Telefilm Canada would be required to achieve a total cost savings of $10.6 million, which represents a 10% reduction in both its administrative and program budgets, over a three-year period.

Telefilm Canada is currently finalizing its cost savings plans following the official budget announcement made by the Government on March 29, and in light of changes that have taken place at Telefilm in the last few months.

The Fonds Francophone d’Aide au Développement Cinématographique will end this year after three years of collaboration between Telefilm Canada, SODEC, the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles, the Centre du cinéma et de l’image animée français, Film Fund Luxembourg and the partnership of the Office fédéral de la Culture suisse.

Mad Ship, co-produced by OSM member Buffalo Gal Pictures, and My Awkward Sexual Adventure, produced by OSM member Julijette Inc., are among 11 new productions that will receive suport from Telefilm Canada.

Starting March 14, 2012, the Museum of Modern Art in NYC will showcase the latest and greatest in Canadian cinema.

The Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, Carolle Brabant, today announced the launch of a new private donation fund consisting of two streams: one stream will provide better support to promising young filmmakers while the other is aimed at established filmmakers and will seek to help them achieve their full potential both in Canada and abroad.

Telefilm Canada will accept funding applications for English-language productions through three Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF) programs as of March 5, 2012. These applications will be for fiscal 2012-2013.

Telefilm Canada would like to announce that, in response to the changing needs of the industry, Telefilm is providing more flexibility in how we participate in the financing of a film property. Our production financing can now be defined in one of two ways at the option of the producer: (1) financing in the form of a recoupable advance or (2) as previously, a recoupable equity investment.

Telefilm Canada is currently accepting applications by Canadian companies for accreditation at the Marché du Film in Cannes, taking place May 16-25, 2012.

Telefilm Canada announces the Top 10 Canadian films, funded through the Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF), with the highest foreign and US gross sales since the creation of the Fund 10 years ago. The Top 10 brought home a combined total of $140.2 million. What’s more, gross sales made between 2006 and 2010 ($126.5 million) represent an increase of more than 200% over the five years previous ($41.9 million), from 2001 to 2005.
