New Media Manitoba presents TWO half day sessions this August from their "Beat to Tweet" series that will rejuvenate, renew, and reload your social business strategy in 2010. It's like Hot Yoga for your social media mojo. :)

separately and return on Sunday to do the assigned scene again, implementing the notes. Sunday will be a
combination of coaching and self-critique, allowing the participant to identify strengths and weaknesses and
to grow from there. During the workshop, everyone will present his or her scene at least twice.

Who is Dave Brown?

He was once called the most anal guy in Hollywood (Affectionately, we might add.) Industry insiders refer to him as one of Winnipeg's hidden talents. Entertainment Reporter Randall King once did an article on him appropriately titled, "Number one with a bullet."

We are, of course, talking about our own On Screen Manitoba member Dave Brown. (Who else would be "number one with a bullet" in the Manitoba Film Industry?)

Dave is a professional instructor who travels the country teaching police, military and government agencies how to use their firearms safely and effectively, and is respected as one of few civilians considered to be an expert on police weapons training in Canada. He has taught workshops across Canada and even as far as Los Angeles, so it is a rare opportunity to have Dave talk about safety with firearms right here in Winnipeg.

In the Winnipeg Free Press, Randall King said, "Brown is fastidiously careful, but he is also patient and easygoing, an invaluable asset when working with actors. He knows, after all, that it's only make-believe."

Dave would probably add, "It's only make-believe until someone gets hurt."  With better knowledge, we can make sure that doesn't happen.

Posted: Apr 23, 2010 NMM PRESENTS 'HD DIGITAL SLR FILMMAKING' WITH JAMES SWIRSKY

It would not be an exaggeration to say HD capable DSLR Cameras have revolutionized the linear and interactive video industry. With their shallow depth of field, astounding low light capability and remarkable price point, these cameras are allowing filmmakers a cinematic look that was previously unattainable without access to a 100K camera or applying cumbersome 35mm adapter kits.

On Tuesday April 27, 2010, from 7 pm - 9 pm at 1000 Waverley, celebrated (by his family) commercial filmmaker James Swirsky will demonstrate the virtues of the HDSLR movement, as well as the drawbacks of shooting on such a new and evolving platform. Jamie's production company Blink-Works produced the New Media Business showcase that so many of you saw at IMAX this past December which was shot on just two HDSLRs.

REGISTER at the New Media Manitoba website.

Since its introduction a scant 18 months ago, the HDSLR has gone from curious toy to full fledged Hollywood production tool (the camera has been used on the primetime hits ‘House’ and ’24’). Not bad for something you can get at Best Buy.

But alas, these cameras are succeeding in spite of themselves. Because for every glorious ‘Pro’ offered by an HDSLR, there is a boat-load of frustrating ‘Cons’ that can frustrate the shooter to no end. With these little ‘gotchas’ in place, your footage can go from ‘Coen Brothers’ to ‘Uncle-Marty-Just-Got-A-New-Camcorder’ in seconds flat.

Jamie's presentations are always informative, gracious, and entertaining. I encourage you to register soon as seating is limited.

There is no charge to attend but we will get Twilight Zone circa 1980's on you if you register and do not show up. We will meet at 1000 Waverley. All are welcome.

We are very fortunate that Mid Canada Production Services will be giving away 5 prizes consisting of an HDSLR camera rental, and William F. White's will be providing our refreshments!

iPHONE DEVELOPMENT BOOTCAMP
We round out our iPhone Marketing with the most comprehensive 5-day iPhone Developer Course ever offered in Canada from Big Nerd Ranch. Let me speak quite plainly when I say that Big Nerd Ranch's Bootcamp is recognized as the most comprehensive and influential iPhone course in the world. Their list of clients and students include Pixar, Google, and Apple (to name a few).

Our trainer from Big Nerd Ranch will be Scott Ritchie.

Scott Ritchie has been developing and teaching Objective-C since he joined NeXT Computer in 1990. Prior to that time he was an engineer at Sun Microsystems working on window systems. Since 2000 he has held several training and engineering positions with Apple, most recently working with both AppKit and UIKit development. When the Fortune 500 companies of the world need an iPhone trainer, they call Big Nerd Ranch and ask for Scott Ritchie.

This week long course normally starts at $4200 for registration plus flight and hotel. But thanks to the generous support from the Province of Manitoba and Entrepreneurship, Training & Trade, Manitobans can take this course for just $1,495.

We at New Media Manitoba have worked for 2-years to offer this kind of top-tier iPhone development training at little cost. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I knew of someone locally that develops for the iPhone I would be a hundred-naire! :) We are excited to promote you as part of an exclusive group of iPhone application developers in Manitoba.

The course is ideally suited for programmers that already have some experience with Obective-C and Cocoa.

Upon completion of the iPhone Bootcamp, you receive exclusive access to Big Nerd Ranch's private developer board where you have access to all the students Big Nerd Ranch has ever trained (in the thousands) and can ask questions of their trainers. You will also be profiled on New Media Manitoba's upcoming website relaunch as an iPhone specialist.
