MAKE A DATE WITH ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET:40 YEARS OF ONE NIGHT STANDS, NOVEMBER 30
Bravo! spotlights the history of one of the world’s premiere dance companies
Toronto, ON (October 29, 2008) – Premiering Sunday, November 30 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Bravo!, ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET: 40 YEARS OF ONE NIGHT STANDS profiles the groundbreaking ballet company that set the dance world on Prairie fire. Until two British immigrants infused the city with a shot of culture, depression-era Winnipeg was a lonesome place. In the remote Canadian Prairies, Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Hey Farrally founded Canada’s first professional ballet company. Lloyd and Farrally laid the groundwork, but it was basketball-player-turned-ballet-dancer-turned-artistic-director, Arnold Spohr, who propelled the Royal Winnipeg Ballet to its place among the world’s best.
ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET: 40 YEARS OF ONE NIGHT STANDS is produced by Merit Motion Pictures and Inside Out Productions in association with Bravo!, directed by Peabody Award Winner, Jeff McKay, and narrated by the Tony Award®-winning actor, Brent Carver.

CRTC to examine broadcasting in the new media environment
OTTAWA-GATINEAU ‹ The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today launched a proceeding to gain a better understanding of broadcasting in the new media environment. The proceeding will include a public hearing starting on February 17, 2009, in Gatineau, Que.
In 1999, the Commission exempted from regulation services that distribute broadcasting content over the Internet. In 2007, it also exempted broadcasting services that are received through cellphones and other mobile devices. Today, high-speed Internet access has been adopted by most Canadians, new technologies and applications are offering high-quality broadcasting content, and Canadians are spending more time accessing this type of content over the Internet and mobile devices.

MMPIA requests roundtable meeting re: CRA adminstration of Manitoba Tax Credit
Hello members,
MMPIA is submitting a letter today on behalf of our members to Canada Revenue Agency's Film Services Unit documenting concerns our members have expressed regarding the administration of the Manitoba Tax Credit. Administration of the Tax Credit was moved to CRA in June 2007 by the Province of Manitoba in hopes of streamlining and speeding up the processing of the Credit to better serve the industry in Manitoba. Unfortunately there have been many concerns regarding CRA's administration including disallowing previously eligible costs, lack of understanding of film/tv production and up to 4 month delays.
MMPIA is requesting a roundtable meeting to raise these concerns and find solutions to them with CRA and Province of Manitoba representatives. We believe it is in everyone's best interest to ensure this transition from Provincial to Federal administration of the Credit is efficient and effective for all parties involved. The Tax Credit is a vital incentive for our industry in Manitoba and ensuring it is well administered is a top priority!
Members wishing to see the letter sent to CRA can request it by contacting Tara at
