Posted: Sep 25, 2007 INDUSTRY STRATEGY SESSION POSTPONED

Hello MMPIA Members!

The Strategy Session originally planned for this coming Friday is being postponed. We have made the decision to postpone it to a time of year when we can get the maximum attendance from the broadest spectrum of the industry possible. Everyone is so busy now (which is, as always, wonderful to see!) we would be missing voices from key segments of the film community. The goal of the session is to develop strategy and programming to support the entire industry, and, as we're sure you'll agree, it is critical that we have industry-wide representation at the table as we do that.

Thank you to all who RSVPed for Friday! We will keep you informed as to when the meeting will take place: look for something in January of 2008. As always, our doors are open. If you have any questions or feedback for us, please contact Tara (tara@mmpia.ca), Carole (carole@mbfilmsound.ca) or Neila (nbenson@filmtraining.mb.ca)

Dear members,

In preparation for our 20th Anniversary MMPIA is compiling a listing of the top 20 award winning film and tv productions from the last twenty years. Preparing this list is tougher than we realized and we'd like your help.

Your help needed!
The best way for us to collect a list of award winning productions from the last 20 years is for the producers and filmmakers to provide us with this info directly.

Please send us info on your award-winning Manitoba-made productions!

We are looking for productions made between 1987 and 2007 that have won 'Best of' awards for the entire production. Unfortunately given the brevity of the list we are not able to include craft awards. Feel free to send this info anyways as we are intending to build a databank of Manitoba production community achievements! Please include:

Name of your production:
Type of award won:
Category:
Year:

Milestone productions
We are also looking for milestone productions. If you think your production helped the Manitoba community 'break ground' and reach a new level please send us a little description of why you think that. An example might be My Life As a Dog - the first dramatic television series to be filmed and produced in Manitoba.

Posted: May 22, 2007 Dry Cold Productions presents: NINE

Friday, May 25 & Saturday 26 - 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 27 - 2:00 p.m.
CanWest Global Performing Arts Centre (at The Forks)

Nine is a musical adaptation of the Frederico Fellini film 8 1/2 . Fellini’s essentially autobiographical story concerns the difficulties of the film director Guido Contini, fresh off the greatest hit of his career so far, to endure a midlife crisis that has blocked his creative impulses and entangled him in a web of romantic difficulties. The original 1982 Broadway production was directed by Tommy Tune and starred Raul Julia as Guido, the only man in an otherwise all-female cast. (Actually there is a boy as well - the 9-year-old Guido.) The show won the Tony Award for Best Musical. A 2003 Broadway revival starred Antonio Banderas as Guido and again won a Tony, this time for Best Revival of a musical.
