Congratulations to OSM member Buffalo Gal Pictures and the cast and crew of Mad Ship whose Scandinavian rights have been sold to Norwegian distributor Star Media Entertainment.

The Juliette Hagopian co-produced feature, The Christmas Heart, will be shown on Showcase on Sunday, November 23, 2012 at 6 pm.

This is a valuable software tool for the entire costume department to use and share. Whether it’s a key costumer looking up scene wear notes, or an assistant designer checking on actor fitting details, Sync OnSet allows multiple users to collaborate in a new and exciting way, and is available for iPhones and iPads.

For this one-day advanced camera workshop, the instructors will break participants into groups and then rotate them through three different RED Epic set-ups. Each set-up will allow participants to simulate a real-world camera scenario. Towards the end of the workshop, participants will review the footage that was shot throughout the day.

OSM was fortunate to have Red River College Creative Communications student, Megan Merasty, working with us recently for a three week internship. During that time she got some tips and anecdotes from OSM members Charles Clément and Brad Crawford as she was interviewing them about their experience as Manitoban filmmakers.

The Major Arts Grant is available to support personal creative projects of six to ten months in duration. The Winnipeg Film Group’s First Film Fund is, as its name implies, a program designed to assist aspiring or beginning filmmakers to make a first film. There are two awards available yearly.

Join us for a workshop demonstrating the different methods and techniques used in this rich and inventive animation medium. The first half of the workshop will feature discussion on the technical aspects and limitations to animating in stop-motion. You will have hands on experience animating a scene, and character. We will touch on some of the available stop-motion animation software tools, and how they may be used.

Telefilm Canada today held its fourth Annual Public Assembly and released the highlights of its 2011-2012 annual report. With the theme “Daring to Change: Delivering,” Chair of the Board, Michel Roy, and Executive Director, Carolle Brabant, presented the initiatives and results of a fiscal year that has been successful for Telefilm and the Canadian audiovisual industry. The event took place at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto and was attended by over 100 clients and partners. Telefilm Annual Public Assemblies in previous years have taken place in Montreal, Halifax and St. Boniface.

Film Training Manitoba (FTM)  announced the release of its first annual report, which highlights the accomplishments of FTM in the 2011/12 fiscal year.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) denied BCE’s application to acquire control of Astral Media’s television and radio services because it is not in the public interest. Astral Media operates 84 radio stations and 20 pay and specialty television channels in both official languages.

Canadian filmmakers, producers and distributors are invited to submit their original work to the 2013 Yorkton Film Festival Golden Sheaf Awards Competition, open to all Canadian productions 60 minutes and under that have been completed between February 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013. International co-productions are eligible only if the director is Canadian.

In December of 2011, Nordicity completed an assignment for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Radio-Canada that sought to assess the impact on the CBC/Radio-Canada and on the wider Canadian broadcasting system if the CBC/Radio-Canada were to remove advertising from its television offerings. In 2008 Hot Docs and Canwest partnered in the creation of the Canwest-Hot Docs Documentary Funds. In December of 2010 the funds were renamed the Shaw Media-Hot Docs Funds. These Funds consist of a $3-million completion fund and a $1-million development fund. Shaw Media’s $4-million infusion into the Canadian documentary production community via the Funds will provide much-needed financial support to filmmakers facing financing gaps at critical stages in their projects. Hot Docs will manage and disperse the Funds’ benefit monies over a next seven-year period.

The next edition of Hot Docs takes place April 25 to May 5, 2013, in Toronto, Canada.

Universal Pictures’ latest instalment of the horror film called The Curse of Chucky is currently shooting in Winnipeg. MidCan is happy to report that their ARRI Alexa camera is being used on the production and MidCan has also been hired to do the digital dailies and downconverts.
