Claudia Garcia de la Huerta, Programs Manager

Born in Chile, Claudia and her parents arrived in Winnipeg as political refugees in 1975. She was just two years old.

In 1998 Claudia graduated from the Creative Communications program at Red River College. She was hired by CBC Radio in Winnipeg where she went on to have a successful career first as a news reporter and then as the producer and host of the weekly music and performance show “Culture Shock”.

In the Fall of 2003, Claudia and her husband Bob, an actor and an filmmaker, moved to Toronto where she helped the CBC Radio station there create their own weekly music and performance show “Big City, Small World”.

Claudia produced and hosted that show for two years.

In October of 2006 Claudia and her husband welcomed their daughter Isabela into the world.

A life changing event in anyone’s life, the pull of family and friends back home was even stronger after their daughter was born. So Bob and Claudia decided to pack everything up and come back to Winnipeg.

Claudia says after years of reporting on the arts scene, she’s very excited to be part of the On Screen Manitoba team ---an organization actively making change for the better in the province’s film, television & interactive digital media industry.
